The Beach Boys Wouldn’t Stand For This

Can you remember the last time you were at the beach? You were probably with a bunch of friends, it was a beautiful day, the water was just the right temperature to cool you down and if you went to a beach in New Jersey it was probably over crowded. One thing you probably do not recall immediately, was the litter on the beach, but I can guarantee it was there. A lot of the litter was probably plastic water bottles and plastic bags that people brought their lunches in.

Most people do not think about the consequences of bringing these items to the beach. Many beaches have  attempted prevent excessive litter with a take in, take out policy. However, many beachgoers disregard these types of rules. According to Discover News, there is 315 billion pounds of plastic in the ocean right now.

If this alarms you, there is something that you can do. Clean Ocean Action is holding it’s annual Beach Sweep on April 21, 2012 from 9 am to 12:30 pm. This will be held at 73 different beaches in New Jersey. If you believe that your favorite beach is turning into a dump, this is your chance to do something about it! It will be a rewarding experience and great way to meet your fellow beach lovers. You will get to know your neighbors, at a location that is loved by all, your local beach.

Don’t forget that Stokefest is also on April 21, 2012! You can get involved with Asbury Park’s two beach clean ups before participating in all the excitement of Stokefest at 8 pm at the Stone Pony.
