San Fran’s Rip Curl Pro Search Begins Tomorrow

by

With only 1 day of waiting left, the Rip Curl Pro Search event will begin tomorrow in Ocean Beach, San Francisco. From November 1 – 12 there will be four full days of competition due to the unpredictability of the weather.

In its seventh year running, pro surfers from around the world will unite against San Fran’s crazy swells. In the past, the Rip Curl Pro Search event has taken place from Mexico to Indonesia, and most recently in Puerto Rico.

The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) have decided that San Fran deserves a chance to be conquered by the world’s best surfers. “The objective is to shake up the World Tour each year by bringing the best surfers in the world to a spot that has never had an event” (ESPN).  Last year, Kelly Slater and Steph Gilmore were the 2010 ASP World and Search Champions. Koa Smith and Quincy Davis were the GromSearch Champs. This year expect to see Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, Jeremy Flores, and many more at the 2011 Rip Curl Pro Search!

If you’re attending, keep in mind that this event will be a leave no trace event, which means carry in, carry out. There will be water refill stations available, so remember to bring your water bottles.

If you can’t make it across the country or even across the world, don’t be too bummed out, there will be a live webcast here!
