As the Oceans Cool the Mountains Freeze

The season for everything beach related is very much over. In fact my local forecast is talking of snow. While people seem less than happy to welcome in the winter it does have its benefits, like snowboarding and skiing. As I’m sure we all know keeping our oceans clean is important, but as fewer people go swimming we should start to worry a bit about the mountains as well. Skiing and snowboarding, as well as all winter sports, have their potential for environmentally harmful effects. There are plenty of ways to help reduce your negative effects and Treehugger has already given us quite a few.

The list is mostly obvious things such as carpooling and reducing litter but surprisingly WHERE you ski or snowboard can help make the difference.  The Aspen Skiing Company is considered to be one of the best. They take advantage of wind power to make them one of the greenest ski resorts in the country. Obviously not everyone is going to be able to make it to Aspen this winter, but keeping in mind what you can do to reduce the size of carbon footprints can only help.
